being obese is NOT ok. it's not beautiful. it's not healthy. it's not a body type. it's your choice and it's socially irresponsible. - MAS International News

being obese is NOT ok. it's not beautiful. it's not healthy. it's not a body type. it's your choice and it's socially irresponsible.

if covid has taught us anything, it's taught us how interconnected we are and how our choices can affect others. obesity creates financial and logistical barriers for people who need lifesaving care. during a pandemic, when we should be worried about treating and protecting our most vulnerable populations, hospitals are overflowing with obese patients whose poor lifestyle choices predisposed them to covid vulnerability. your lack of self discipline is literally costing other people their lives. and yes, a pandemic is an extreme example of how your choices impact other people, but this isn't a new problem. the entire US healthcare spends billions of dollars treating diseases with a cure that doesn't cost a dime. doctors devote entire careers to taking care of patients who make themselves sick. costs to access care are skyrocketing, largely driven by chronic, preventable illness connected to lifestyle issues like obesity and smoking. other people are paying for your choices.

it's not actually that different than wearing masks. yes it's uncomfortable, yes it's inconvenient, yes it might make you look funny, but guess what? it's not all about you. people's lives hang in the balance. same with obesity, your life and the lives of others literally hang in the balance. you're putting massive stress on a system already at the breaking point.

so if you can wear an uncomfortable mask to help save lives, what i'm asking is that you also put down the 32oz coke to save some lives. get outside and walk to save some lives. pull up an exercise video on youtube and spend 20 minutes moving to save some lives. it's something 99.999% of people can do, it's free, and it's fun!

EDIT: i've been informed by several that this came across a little harsh. consider this my formal apology in lieu of a re-write to soften it up. the facts and sentiments remain the same.
