Why do people not want smart meters for energy?

Lazy Sunday gave me time to be on Reddit...

Saw another post where someone wanted to avoid having a smart meter installed and wondered why that might be. I know some people use top-up meters, but smart meters can be top-up too. You can still do manual readings if you like (at least with my supplier).

No judgement, genuinely curious here
